Some cars are more expensive to maintain and repair. Buying a car that has easy maintenance parts versus one that doesn’t will cost much less than buying a car with more expensive parts to maintain. More expensive vehicles such as a Mercedes-Benz or a BMW would naturally contain parts that not only cost a lot but would require a repair job with more skillful and higher paid workers. Labor alone would cost an estimated $100 per hour while labor costs for cheaper cars would cost about $70 per hour.
Buying a car that has easy maintenance parts versus one that doesn’t would also mean that a less expensive car would have fewer devices installed. Newer models of popular car manufacturers have high-tech and more complicated electronic features and would entail higher maintenance and repair costs. Maintenance of these car models doesn’t end with changing oil and brake fluid or replacing the tires and brake pads. Several electric circuits and electric wires would also have to be checked regularly. This takes a lot of time and a very skillful repair team.
According to The Fiscal Times, cars with lowest maintenance costs include the 2007 Lexus ES 350, 2008 Toyota Yaris, 2008 Ford Taurus, 2009 Honda Accord, 2009 Honda Pilot, 2010 Toyota Corolla, 2010 Dodge Challenger, 2010 Subaru Outback, 2010 Subaru Forester, 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, 2010 Hyundai Sonata and 2011 Chevrolet Impala. These cars have repair costs ranging from $64 to $377 in total each year.
On the other hand, according to automotive.com, cars with the highest maintenance costs include the 2013 BMW M5, 2013 BMW M6, 2013 Chevrolet Corvette, 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, 2014 SRT Viper, 2014 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class, 2014 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, and the 2014 Nissan GT-R. Maintenance costs for these high-performance cars range from $1200 to $2400 per year.
When buying a car that has easy maintenance parts versus one that doesn’t, you get to save around 50 percent of what it would cost to maintain a high-maintenance car, which is more or less $1000 a year. That’s a thousand bucks worth of savings! Imagine that!
